If you shop at Trader Joe’s, you already know about those little insulated mini totes. Every season, the store releases a new batch, and fans snap them up fast. Well, the summer 2026 designs dropped on May 20, and the rush is already in full swing.
This year’s collection comes in six styles. Two feature stripes: bold blue and lime green, and pink with pastel red (closer to coral, by most accounts). The other four show a two-toned silhouette of the store itself, in violet, blue, orange, or green, each with a contrasting pastel pink, hot pink, green, or blue zipper.
They are perfect for packing a picnic lunch, a road-trip snack, or a few cold drinks. And as always, the price is just $3.99.
Why Are People Lining Up Before Sunrise?
These little bags have become genuine collectibles. And where there are collectibles, there are resellers. One Trader Joe’s fan on Reddit explained it plainly: “They are super collectible and these people flip them on eBay for like 10 times the value.”
That is not an exaggeration. The new bags were already showing up on eBay shortly after the release, one listed for over $24, a set of three for $42.99, another for $23.95, and one more for $20 plus over $5 for shipping. All for a bag that costs $3.99 at the store.
The Lines Are Real, and the Limits Are Strict
One Redditor from California posted a photo of the crowd outside their local store just after 8 a.m. Her husband made it inside and scored three bags. In Oakland, the line was about 70 people long, and the store limited each customer to one set of six. Another shopper arrived at 8:15 a.m. and was told they could buy one set of three, and that by the time the line cleared, they might be able to come back for more. A coworker who showed up closer to 9 a.m. found the bags already sold out.
The lines were not just a California thing. Shoppers in Nevada, Texas, Michigan, Maryland, and Virginia all reported long waits and purchase limits at their local stores.
So if you want one of these for your summer lunches and picnics (and not the eBay price) your best bet is to head to your nearest Trader Joe’s sooner rather than later. Early bird gets the tote.
