Do you remember the first time you slipped a Ring Pop onto your finger? That oversized candy jewel felt like the most fun thing in the world. Part treat, part accessory, all delicious.
Well, one of the flavors fans never stopped asking about is finally back. Ring Pop has officially brought back its Cotton Candy flavor, bright blue, sugary, and carrying that classic spun-sugar taste people have been missing for years.
A Candy With a Surprising Origin Story
Ring Pop first appeared in 1977, with Strawberry and Grape as its original flavors. But the story behind it is sweeter than you might expect.
A product engineer named Frank Richards came up with the idea as a creative way to help curb his young daughter’s thumb-sucking habit. He figured if she had something fun and flavorful to put in her mouth, the thumb might get a break.
That small idea turned into a cultural phenomenon. Combining candy with wearable play was something genuinely new at the time. Kids went wild for it. Birthday parties, school playgrounds, corner candy shops, Ring Pop showed up everywhere.
The Cotton Candy Comeback
The new Cotton Candy version features a vibrant blue candy gem and comes in bold, swirled packaging that feels as if it were designed with a summer carnival in mind. According to a press release shared with Parade, the updated flavor delivers that classic spun-sugar taste fans remember.
The flavor made its official debut at this year’s Revolve Festival during Coachella, timed to match the event’s festive, carnival-inspired atmosphere. But you do not need a festival ticket to get your hands on one.
The Cotton Candy Ring Pop is rolling out nationwide this month at Target, Walmart, and Amazon. So if the grandkids are around, this might be a fun little surprise to share, along with the story of how their grandparent knew this candy way back when it first appeared on shelves.
Some things from the past are worth bringing back. A bright blue candy ring that tastes like cotton candy might just be one of them.
