If you shop at Aldi, here is some good news. The chain just announced it will remove 44 more ingredients from all its private-label products by the end of 2027.

That is a big deal, and it is not the first time Aldi has done something like this.

Aldi Has Been Ahead of the Curve for Years

Back in 2015, Aldi became one of the first national grocery chains to remove all certified synthetic colors from its store brands. At that time, the company eliminated 13 ingredients. That list included artificial dyes like FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Yellow No. 5, and FD&C Blue No. 1, along with monosodium glutamate and partially hydrogenated oils.

Many other brands are only now catching up. The FDA revoked its authorization for FD&C Red Dye 3 in early 2025 and announced a push to remove all FD&C colors from American foods by the end of 2027. Since then, chains like Sam’s Club, Walmart, Target, Kraft Heinz, PepsiCo, and Nestle have all announced plans to reformulate their products.

Aldi did not need to scramble. It had already done the work.

What This Means for Your Shopping Cart

Aldi’s private label products make up more than 90 percent of everything sold in the store. That means almost everything on the shelves will eventually be reformulated to meet the new standards.

All new Aldi products will already follow the updated guidelines. Existing products that need reformulating will roll out in new versions throughout 2027.

Aldi says it is working with its suppliers to ensure that removing these 44 ingredients will not affect the taste or price of your favorite items. That is important; nobody wants cleaner labels if it means paying more or giving up flavor.

When your favorite Aldi product has been updated, you will be able to tell by checking the ingredient information printed on the package.

If you have been reading labels more carefully lately (and many of us have), Aldi just made that job a little easier.
