Ways to enjoy your life every day.

A car that breaks down constantly is not just an inconvenience. It is a serious drain on your savings. Repair bills add up fast, and an unreliable vehicle can quietly eat through money you worked hard to set aside.

The good news is that several 2026 SUVs have earned strong marks from auto experts for durability, safety, and low upkeep costs. Here are four worth a close look.

Toyota Highlander — Starting at $45,870

Alan Gelfand, owner of German Car Depot in Hollywood, Florida, calls the Highlander his number one pick. He points to its safety package, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection as standout features.

The Highlander holds a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and can surpass 200,000 miles with proper care, Gelfand said. Average annual maintenance runs about $489, according to RepairPal. Toyota has a long reputation for building vehicles that simply keep going.

Honda CR-V — Starting at $30,920

If keeping costs down is your priority, the CR-V is hard to beat. Its average annual maintenance is just $407 per RepairPal, the lowest on this list.

Melanie Musson, an auto industry expert with AutoInsurance.org, says the CR-V provides reliable service over 50 percent longer than competing SUVs in its class. Gelfand adds that with basic maintenance, it can easily reach 200,000-plus miles with no issues. It also comes loaded with conveniences like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch touchscreen, and wireless charging.

Chevrolet Tahoe — Starting at $60,700

The Tahoe is the biggest and priciest option here, but it delivers a lot in return. Dealership expert Joel Kansanback notes that General Motors was the number-one-selling brand in America last year. The Tahoe offers a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

“This vehicle gives you a luxury feel with the utmost in comfort and safety.”

Kansanback said. Keep in mind that maintenance costs are higher, averaging $744 per year, according to RepairPal. If you want the most space and the most features, though, the Tahoe delivers.

Subaru Outback — Starting at $34,995

The Outback is built for durability in tough conditions. It comes with blind-spot monitoring, automatic pre-collision braking, generous cargo space, and Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, which makes it well-suited for rain, snow, and uneven roads.

Gelfand said the Outback can go anywhere from 200,000 to 300,000 miles if the owner keeps up with maintenance. Average annual upkeep runs $607, according to RepairPal. For anyone who wants a tough, long-lasting vehicle without a luxury price tag, this one earns serious consideration.

Four solid choices, four different price points. Whether you want the lowest maintenance bill or the roomiest ride, each of these 2026 SUVs has the track record to back it up.
